Tout le monde (grand public)

Another weekend is nearly upon us and this means it is time for another Grand Prix. Attention now turns to Abu Dhabi for the 2012 Formula 1 season and as has been the case over the last few weeks, Sebastian Vettel is the man to beat.

Now the comfortable betting favourite to win the World title – which would complete a remarkable hat-trick – the German has won four races in a row now, with a stunning win in India last weekend.

The Red Bull man – who has committed his future to the team, despite strong Ferrari rumours – secured pole position and held on for the win. All the bookies now have him as the favourite to win the 2012 title, with Betfair offering the best odds at 23/100.

Fernando Alonso is remaining defiant though. In fact, he said he was more confident now than ever that he could pip Vettel to the title. If you fancy backing this as one of your Formula 1 bets, you can get odds of 4/1 with BetVictor.

Highlighting that things are between these two for the title now, the next available world title betting contender is Kimi Raikkonen. His odds? 500/1 with Bet365. This would be a wasted bet, that’s for sure. It is between Vettel and Alonso and this weekend will play another big part in deciding how things go.

The winner in Abu Dhabi could come from elsewhere though and the winner’s betting market is a fascinating one. Looking at the history of this race, there have only been three races to speak of.

Vettel won in 2009 and 2010, while Lewis Hamilton was victorious last year. Bookmakers are given the McLaren man a 6/1 chance to repeat this success too with Boylesports. If you are to use a bet away from Alonso and Vettel – Hamilton could be the man.

One thing for sure is that the Yas Marina Circuit is a fantastic spectacle and under the floodlights, it has been a very welcome addition to the schedule over the last three years.

In terms of other contenders for the win, many bets will be placed on Mark Webber, Jenson Button and Raikkonen. As with every race, these are the guys that have a chance.

F1 betting is fascinating though and you can look beyond who will win the race, something that has been needed over recent weeks with Vettel dominating proceedings. So, we fancy Alonso for pole position at the excellent odds of 14/1 with bet365.

What happens after this is anyone’s guess with all eyes on Vettel once again.
